"There is a woman in the room," Ashley Cleveland announces on "Queen of Soul," the rousing lead-off track from her latest release, Before the Daylights Shot. Though she may be singing about Aretha Franklin, that simple declaration could double as Clevelands own motto as an artist.
In a music scene overpopulated by breathy girls and melismatic vamps, Cleveland is that rare thing - a woman who sings like a woman. A woman with grit and passion. A woman whos not afraid to follow her longings into places both light and dark. Yes, she can roar and wail with maximum soul wattage (her voice inspires regular comparisons to locomotives and hurricanes). But she can also be soft, tender, sly, wistful, open-hearted, melancholy, wise, seductive, wry - all those facets that make a vocalist deep and compelling. And whether shes delivering a regretful ballad like "Streams Of Mercy" or a mighty rocker like "The Blessing," she connects emotionally with a strength and clarity that would make Cingular jealous.
Its that emotional connection - a combo of Clevelands natural wonder of a voice and fierce songwriting talent - that has been thrilling listeners since her debut in 1991. Blending rock, blues, gospel and folk with her distinct open-tuned guitar playing, she has forged an unmistakable sound that has won her two Grammy Awards, three Dove Awards, a place on countless year-end Top Ten lists and a legion of devoted fans.
Beyond her own career, Cleveland is also one of Nashvilles most in-demand session singers, having performed on over three hundred albums, for artists including Emmylou Harris, John Hiatt, Jars Of Clay, Don Henley, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Delbert McLinton, Etta James, Rodney Crowell, Pam Tillis, Patty Smyth and Michael McDonald.
A spokesperson for SHARE (Songs of Hope And Recovery for Everyone), Cleveland regularly performs at national events focused on addiction recovery.
Her seventh album, Before The Daylights Shot, finds Cleveland at the height of her powers. Whether shes singing about purpose ("Ready Or Not"), faith ("Deeper Walk"), fulfillment (a bluesy take on Stevie Wonders "Higher Ground") or enduring married love ("Twilight Hour"), theres a clear-eyed maturity and depth of artistry that lifts her into an exclusive class. |

Susan Rae Hill was born in Irving, TX, on July 17, 1967. The adult contemporary vocalist's first single -- recorded using her mother's maiden name of Ashton to avoid confusion with Kim Hill -- gained an audience with CCM radio listeners around America in 1991, and made her album Wakened by the Wind the biggest-selling debut in the history of the Sparrow label.
Ashton reached number one in the Christian charts two more times that year, received a Dove award for New Artist of the Year and won a CCM readers and reporters poll for Best New Artist. Her second album, Angels of Mercy (1992), proved her staying potential: it spawned four CCM number one singles and was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Pop Gospel Album category. Ashton won the 1993 CCM readers award for Favorite Inspirational Album and a reporters poll for Best Female Artist. She narrowly missed capturing Dove awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year.
Also in 1993, Susan Ashton married John David Cunningham and released her self-titled third album, with two singles charting number one. She was nominated for a 1994 Dove award in the category Female Vocalist of the Year. Ashton also branched out that year, recording Down the Road with Margaret Becker and Christine Dente. That album was voted the Favorite Inspirational Album and Favorite Vocal Event in the 1995 readers' polls, and was nominated for Dove awards in the Group of the Year and Recorded Music Packaging of the Year categories. Ashton herself was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. Susan Ashton's collection of hits, So Far...The Best of Susan Ashton Volume 1, appeared in 1995. The following year, Ashton signed with Chordant and released Distant Call. Closer, her debut for Capitol, followed in mid-1999.

KIM HILL
"Worship is my lifeline...in the craziness of my life, whether it's in real crisis or the fire drill of getting my boys to school in the morning, focusing on the Lord through worship helps keep everything in perspective. -Kim HillThe latest offering from the Grammy nominated, multi-Dove award winner Kim Hill is a beautiful reflection of a heart tempered by worship titled Surrender. Worship Leader magazine says, Surrender is filled with redemption and tinged with doubt, yet it's God's perfect deliverance that resonates throughout making it among Hill's best work. This is the fourteenth national release for the twenty year music veteran and Hill continues to offer what weve come to expect: a fresh perspective, great content and the deep, resonating vocals that is synonymous with her name. Surrender is her fourth worship CD, which was followed up her by her much anticipated holiday offering Real Christmas. In 2006, Kim released Broken Things which was a return to her rock roots with lyrics that highlighted the divine mercy she received while journeying through a difficult divorce and embarking on life as a single mom. Broken Things reminded many fans and critics of Kims early work on her Grammy Nominated CCM classic CD, Brave Heart, as evidenced by the following radio interview.Empowered, loved, lifted-up, redeemed; these are the words that come to mind when listening to Kim Hills powerful new CD, Broken Things. This CD is aimed at those who need encouragement- the lost, broken, forgotten women who have been discarded or shamed because of a failed relationship, or simply because of their own insecurities. (Deep Impact Radio quote 2007)Kim was ignited with the desire to lead others in worship when Focus on the Family asked her to lead worship at their inaugural Renewing the Heart national womens conference held in Nashville, TN in 1997. She went on to lead worship for the rest of the conference series, impacting over 200,000 women during the four year run. Id always been a solo artist, so to encourage an arena filled with 20,000 women to sing with me to an audience of One - rather than just sit there and listen - was an amazing experience, enthuses Hill. Shes had the opportunity to lead thousands of women across America in worship since then, as well as several African women at a multi-denominational event in Nairobi, KenyaKim continues to be a favorite for organizations such as the MOPS National Conference, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Grahams Training Center at The Cove as well as for noted speakers and authors Max Lucado and Angela Thomas. Kim has also been giving a lot of attention to her own conference series, Every Womans Hope, which was created with longtime friend and former Focus Womens Director, Lisa Harper. Juggling the responsibilities of recording artist, worship leader, and single mother of two very active boys, Hill has found comfort and clarity in worship and encourages others through her music to do the same. I think the trials of life help us see what really matters...they essentially illuminate our dependency on Christ and make His grace and mercy taste even sweeter. My personal journey has made me realize how desperate I am for the Lord to help me every moment of every day.

National Debut, We Shine, To Release On September 25 With Music Industry Leaders Endorsing
Ive been using Steves worship music with my students for years. I love how his songs create an atmosphere of freedom where people can connect with God through worship. And this record is the best yet!
-- Mark Hall, Casting Crowns
Steve Fee has a unique voice in the world of worship, effectively leading a new generation to live in a Story so much bigger than their own. Birthing anthems for the church and songs for the culture, Steve continues to merge lyrics anchored in truth with a musicality that is current and fresh. Weve shared so much of the journey together over the last decade and Im excited to see how God will use Fees debut release We Shine for His fame throughout the earth.
We Shine is one of the best worship projects of the year.
--- Louie Giglio, Visionary Architect/Director/Passion Conferences
Releasing two independent projects and traveling with the Passion Conferences as a Worship Leader isnt normal behavior for an unsigned artist, but thats exactly how Steve Fee and band has made a name for themselves since 2001. Now, Steve Fee, Matt Adkins, Heath Balltzglier, and Brandon Coker (known as Fee) have a deal at INO Records to release We Shine September 25.
Band leader Steve Fee says, I feel like this is so much about timing, Gods timing. I have talked to a whole lot of people over the years, yet I was content doing my own thing. But we believe there is a message here that is so good and timely that we want everybody who can hear it to hear it. I have realized that INO is a team of passionate people who have the ability to get this record to people, at the right time and in the right way.
With We Shine, Fee delivers a 12-track set of powerful worship songs that echo victory in Christ in every lyric. The band melds celebratory and significant lyrics to its energetic, relevant rock. The tone of We Shine is set through the spirited album opener All Because of Jesus and first radio single Glorious One. The title cut is a raucous jumper and a shouting experience, while Grace Will Be My Song and Beautiful the Blood escalate with powerful confessions to a Savior who calls his people to freedom in him.
Fee has done an amazing job of building and participating in the worship community, says Jeff Moseley, president of INO Records. As an independent artist he has accomplished some things that any major label artist would dream of. We are happy to partner with him at this place and see how far we can take this music. We believe there are no boundaries and that the songs and artistry will make a way.
What more industry leaders are saying
.
We Shine is my favorite worship record and Steve Fee is the most energizing worship leader Ive ever experienced. His sound is unique. His lyrics are compelling. These songs are going to be around for a long time.
-- Andy Stanley, Pastor of North Point Community Church in Atlanta, GA
Steve Fees music has been a voice of the local church for over a decade, finally his song writing will be heard by the masses. We Shine is a record full of worship anthems soon to be embraced and sung by the church worldwide.
--- Bart Millard/ MercyMe
What an amazing cd. Christ centered lyrics, with infectious beats that stick to you like Velcro. Steve Fee is not only a dear friend, but an amazing worship leader. The new Fee cd has been playing in my car, my iPod, my kitchen, and in my brain all summer long. Every song has helped me love Jesus more. --- David Nasser/ author and minister
